The Queen rubber stamps the Localism Bill

The Queen gave her approval to the Localism Bill today, giving Royal Assent to the Bill and creating the Localism Act 2011.

Commenting on the Act, Stephen Pomeroy, CEO of The Remarkable Group, said:

"This is an important piece of legislation for the planning sector, which makes a number of important changes to the system.

"Through a greater level of public consultation, a local approach to setting housing targets and initiatives such as neighbourhood planning and the Community Right to Buy, the Act will allow communities to play a greater part in shaping their neighbourhoods, which will benefit everyone involved."

He added:

"It is important to remember that the Act forms one part of the changes that are being made to the planning system, and should be viewed alongside the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) and Government initiatives such as the New Homes Bonus."

A full analysis of the Act will appear on Remarkable's dedicated localism website tomorrow, at http://www.localism-agenda.com/.
